Working through a global pandemic and a national uprising demands quick and creative thinking. Audubon New Mexico knew our members, friends, and partners still wanted to hear and interact with us and our shared mission while safe at home. This need to communicate in uncertain times birthed our wildly popular Spring Webinar Series! Our goal was to share the heart of Audubon with you – our work, our people, and our love of birds and the places they need. So far, almost 2,000 people have attended at least one webinar, and about 500 are new to Audubon New Mexico.
We are happy that so much of our community enjoyed the series. Thank you for being a part of Audubon New Mexico, sharing your feedback, and having fun with us. We’ve been hearing from so many of you that during this time of crisis, bird-watching has become a much needed source of pleasure and entertainment. While we all enjoy the beauty that birds bring to our backyards and feeders we often overlook the challenges these birds face and the resulting population declines that have been occurring over the last half century. In part two of our three-part webinar series on the Rio Grande, avian biologist Amy Erickson talks about birds of the Rio Grande. Audubon protects birds and their habitat along the Rio Grande Bosque (riparian forest) by partnering with other nonprofits and government agencies to do on-the-ground habitat restoration. In this webinar, you will hear about some of our current and future projects and learn about native birds and their habitat. This webinar includes photos of birds and their habitat, information on the biology and conservation status of select species, and tips on local birding hotspots so you can find beautiful native birds during your next trip to central New Mexico.
