A global initiative of BirdLife International, implemented by Audubon and local partners in the United States, the Important Bird Areas Program (IBA) is an effort to identify and conserve areas that are vital to birds and other biodiversity.
This IBA provides feeding and resting sites for the largest winter concentration of Sandhill Cranes, as well as geese, grebes, ducks, eagles, quail, & other wildlife.
Spanning 47,343 acres, the Willcox Playa is a lakebed surrounded by grasslands and some mesquite trees, that seasonally floods when it rains.
