Anthony Canganelli (he/him) is the Senior Facilities Assistant at the Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center in Phoenix, Arizona, where he combines his love of nature with his skills in caring for landscapes and guest services.
Originally from Eastern Iowa, Anthony became enthralled by the outdoors and the knowledge it holds after a road trip to Los Angeles. He then spent the summer working in Estes Park, Colorado in 2018.
In 2020, the pandemic prompted Anthony and his wife Josie to move to Tulsa, where on his third day there, he saw a male Painted Bunting in its stunning plumage. This inspired him to conduct research that ignited a deep interest in birdwatching. Since then, Anthony has dedicated much of his free time researching the bird species that inhabit the U.S. and all their nuances, as well as birdwatching in all the contiguous United States, the Pacific Slope of Costa Rica, and two provinces in Canada.
When not at the Rio Salado Audubon Center, you can find Anthony spinning records, incorporating sourdough starters into baked goods, and attempting to summit each state’s high point - he has just 12 left to conquer.
Anthony's favorite southwest bird is the Montezuma Quail.
